Merle’s 50th anniversary and the month of women at the Regatta Hotel

In March this year, the Regatta celebrated the 50th anniversary of Merle Thornton’s famous protest at the Regatta Hotel and International Women’s Day with a Grand Ladies Luncheon on March 27th.   The Grand Ladies Luncheon was opened by Merle herself who spoke about her protest against the oppression of women which included a ban on drinking in public at the Regatta Hotel on March 31st, 1965. Merle received a standing ovation from the eager audience of women, and men, of all ages. New Menus throughout the Regatta Hotel

Regatta Boatshed recently released its boldest menu yet with a variety of mouth-watering share plates in place of the traditional entrée dishes. With dishes like the Bourbon Braised Sticky Brisket and Chargrilled Souvlaki Lamb it’s no wonder the new menu has been so popular. “Share plates are really trendy at the moment, for obvious reasons. You can try a variety of dishes and aren’t limited to whatever entrée you decide on,” said Executive Chef, Dan Fleming. “From the share plates to the dessert, there is an amazing range of flavour in this menu. Regatta Hotel “Scrubs Up”

Regatta guests may have noticed a lot of very blue, medical-looking staff working behind the bar and in the Street Café. To raise awareness for the PA Foundation’s men’s health research initiative ‘Mandate,’ Regatta staff dressed up in surgeons’ scrubs for their Friday night shifts, generating a fair bit of customer amusement. Importantly though, they raised much needed funds for the initiative, which funds research into men’s health issues such as cancer and heart disease. Thanks to the enthusiasm of the Regatta Hotel team and the generosity of our customers, we were able to raise over $4000 for the cause.

Regatta Hotel’s Annual Big Beef Off 2014

Regatta Hotel will celebrate its second annual Big Beef Off in the Boatshed restaurant on August 4, bringing together five of Queensland’s best beef producers (JBS, AACo, Stanbroke, Nolan and John Dee) for the tastiest competition of the year. Each producer has put forward their finest OP rib cuts, which are currently dry ageing on display in the Regatta’s Boatshed. Guests will be invited to blind-taste samples from each producer before voting for their favourite.
